GoBe automatically recognizes four types of daily activity based on the type and intensity of your movements.
What Activity Types Does GoBe Recognize?
- Calm - periods when you are awake but barely moving. For example, sitting at a computer, reading, watching TV, or simply relaxing. Energy expenditure during these periods is relatively low.
- Routine - everyday activities involving small movements and short walks. For example, cooking, cleaning, moving around the house, or doing other household chores. Although these activities are not considered exercise, they still contribute to your daily energy expenditure.
- Walking - periods of continuous walking that GoBe recognizes as a separate activity type. More intense walking, especially at a brisk pace, helps increase energy expenditure and maintain physical fitness.
- Running - a more intense type of physical activity that GoBe also recognizes automatically and tracks its duration.
What Is the Difference Between Calm and Routine?
The main difference is the amount and type of movement. GoBe analyzes your physical activity and classifies it in one-minute intervals:
- Calm - when no steps are detected during a one-minute interval.
- Routine - when a small number of steps (fewer than 60) are detected during a one-minute interval.
For example, GoBe may classify your activity as Calm when you are sitting at a computer, and as Routine when you are cooking, cleaning, or moving around the house.
What Is the Difference Between Routine and Walking?
GoBe recognizes your activity as Walking when the following conditions are met:
- You walk continuously for at least 1 minute.
- Your walking pace is more than 90 steps per minute.
- Your arms move freely while walking.
If you walk more slowly, stop frequently, or make only short movements, GoBe may classify your activity as Routine rather than Walking.
What Is the Difference Between Walking and Running?
GoBe automatically distinguishes between Walking and Running based on accelerometer and heart rate data, taking into account your movement patterns and average speed.
GoBe recognizes Running when your average speed is approximately 10 km/h (6.2 mph) or higher. At lower speeds, the device may classify your activity as Walking, even if you are jogging.
For reference, here are some typical pace ranges:
- Fast running - 3–6 min/km.
- Jogging - 7–9 min/km.
- Walking - 9–15 min/km.
Since GoBe uses arm movements rather than GPS to detect activity, it is important to let your arms move freely while walking or running. If your arm movements are restricted, for example, when holding onto treadmill handrails, activity recognition may be less accurate.
Does Routine Activity Count Toward Daily Energy Expenditure?
Yes. Even if you do not exercise regularly, your everyday movements can still be recognized as Routine and contribute to your total daily energy expenditure.
