The Trends feature in the GoBe app is designed to help you understand your body’s energy dynamics over time. Rather than focusing on daily fluctuations, it provides a broader 3–7 day view of your Energy Balance. This allows you to see whether you're maintaining, losing, or gaining weight - and adjust your habits accordingly.
What Does the Trends Feature Show?
Trends display how your Energy Balance changes over several days:
Stable – Your calorie intake and expenditure are balanced. Useful if you're maintaining your weight.
Decreasing – You’re burning more than you consume. Ideal if your goal is to lose weight.
Increasing – You’re consuming more than you burn. This may lead to gradual weight gain.
Dropping Quickly – A steep calorie deficit (more than 700–1000 kcal). May cause stress and slow down metabolism.
Rising Quickly – A large calorie surplus. Could lead to fat gain if not offset by activity.
Slowly Decreasing – A steady and safe approach to weight loss.
Slowly Increasing – A sign that your current activity level may not be enough to balance your intake.
How the Feature Works
The Trends feature activates automatically when:
- You wear your GoBe device for at least 16 hours a day over a 14-day period
- You have logged at least 5 weigh-ins during those two weeks
After that, weigh yourself at least twice a week.
The app uses your weight and Energy Balance data to identify patterns and calculate a trendline. No manual logging or input is required.
Why Use Trends Instead of Daily Data?
Day-to-day data can be influenced by many short-term factors - hydration, sleep, stress, and even food timing. Trends smooth out these fluctuations and offer a more reliable picture of your overall progress.
By checking your trends every few days, you can:
Make informed decisions about your nutrition and activity
Avoid overreacting to single-day results
Monitor the long-term effects of lifestyle changes
How to Make the Most of Trends
For weight loss – Aim for a slow and steady downward trend.
For muscle gain or healthy weight gain – A gentle upward trend is ideal.
For maintenance – Try to keep your trend as stable as possible.
Avoid extreme fluctuations – Rapid drops or spikes can negatively impact your metabolism and overall well-being.
Why the Trend May Change After Just One Day of Surplus
It’s important to understand that a “rising” trend doesn’t necessarily mean you already have a calorie surplus.
It means that the algorithm has detected a tendency toward a smaller deficit — in other words, the difference between energy expenditure and calorie absorption is decreasing.
Trends are designed to reflect even subtle shifts early on, so that you can adjust your nutrition or activity in advance, before any significant changes in weight occur.
Even a single day with a calorie surplus can influence the overall trend, especially if there was a slight deficit before.
Visually, it might seem that there’s no surplus yet, but the algorithm detects a tendency toward it and shows this as a rising trend.
This is not an error, but rather the intended logic of the algorithm.
The Trends feature gives you a practical, data-driven way to stay on track with your health goals - with fewer distractions and more clarity.
If you have any issues with data accuracy or trend activation, make sure your device is worn consistently and your weight is updated regularly in the app.
