Bioimpedance is a method of measuring the body’s electrical resistance, widely used in medical and fitness technologies to analyze body composition and hydration. At HEALBE, we took it a step further: we integrated a bioimpedance sensor into the GoBe wristband to automatically track the calories absorbed by your body — no food logging required.
How Bioimpedance Works in GoBe
HEALBE’s patented FLOW™ Technology allows GoBe to monitor fluid movement between cells. When you eat, glucose and nutrients enter your bloodstream. As your cells absorb energy, they release water — this changes the tissue conductivity, which is measured by the sensor.
By analyzing the shape of the glucose absorption curve, GoBe calculates how many calories were actually absorbed.
Unlike other fitness trackers that rely on manual food input or estimates, GoBe tracks calorie absorption directly from physiological signals — for more objective and personalized insights.
When Are Calories Registered?
GoBe does not track calories at the time of eating — it records them when nutrients actually enter the blood. This is a gradual process:
1–2 hours — chewing and swallowing
3–4 hours — enzymatic processing
4–8 hours — digestion
5–9 hours or more — nutrient absorption
Simple sugars may be absorbed within 15–30 minutes, while complex meals can take 3–6 hours or longer.
What Else Does the Impedance Sensor Track?
In addition to calories from food, GoBe also tracks energy released from your body’s internal reserves. This is especially relevant when:
You’re on a diet or fasting
You eat infrequently
You engage in physical activity
GoBe gives you a complete picture of your energy balance — not just what you eat, but also what your body uses.
Why It Matters
Thanks to the bioimpedance sensor, GoBe helps you:
Track absorbed calories, not just consumed ones
Understand the effect of meals and lifestyle on your energy balance
Get accurate data without manual food logging
