If you’ve noticed that your heart rate during workouts seems inaccurate — for example, lower than expected or not matching how you feel — this may be due to several factors. Below are the main possible causes and recommendations to help improve measurement accuracy.
1. Averaging in the HEALBE App
Please note that the heart rate graphs in the HEALBE app display averaged data over 5-minute intervals.
If you compare GoBe data with other devices (such as fitness bands or chest strap monitors), keep in mind:
- Some devices show real-time pulse peaks, including short-term spikes.
- Others average heart rate over shorter intervals.
This means the comparison might not be entirely accurate — especially during high-intensity or interval training, where heart rate can fluctuate rapidly.
2. Band Placement on the Wrist
Incorrect placement of the band can lead to the optical sensor temporarily losing contact and failing to detect heart rate — particularly during active movements.
- Avoid letting the band slip down toward the wrist joint, where readings may freeze or become inconsistent.
- Do not overtighten the strap, as this can also reduce accuracy.
- For best results, wear the band slightly higher on your wrist during workouts to maintain better skin contact and reduce movement-related noise.
3. Sensor Hygiene
During intense workouts, your skin may sweat — which can affect the accuracy of the optical heart rate sensor.
- Clean the sensor regularly using a soft damp cloth, especially after physical activity.
- This helps maintain reliable performance and ensures your GoBe provides consistent pulse readings.
4. Type of Physical Activity
In some cases — such as during yoga, stretching, or strength training — where arm movement is minimal, the device may underestimate your activity level, which can lead to lower heart rate readings.
GoBe uses not only the optical sensor but also overall body movement to estimate heart rate during activity. If your movement is limited, the system may interpret it as rest and adjust the pulse data downward, even if your actual heart rate is elevated.
This doesn’t mean the device is “wrong” — it simply means the movement data was insufficient for the system to adjust the reading appropriately.
Currently, the GoBe system does not recognize specific sports or workout modes — it only auto-detects walking and running. Because of this, some inaccuracies may occur during other types of training.
The HEALBE team is actively working to improve heart rate accuracy during physical activity, including plans to introduce dedicated sports modes in future updates. These improvements will help the system better recognize various types of workouts and adjust measurements more precisely.
