If you notice that GoBe shows calorie intake even though you haven’t eaten, just woke up, or are fasting, there’s no need to worry. This is expected behavior and part of how GoBe is designed to work.
GoBe Tracks Energy Absorbed, Not Food Eaten
GoBe does not detect the food you eat directly. Instead, it tracks the energy your body absorbs, using bioimpedance sensors and our FLOW technology algorithm.
When your body absorbs glucose (from food or internal sources), it triggers changes in the fluid movement between your cells. GoBe analyzes this fluid shift to determine how much energy has been absorbed, and calculates calorie intake based on that.
This means GoBe registers calories at the moment nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream, not when food is consumed.
Why You May See Calorie Intake Without Eating
There are a few reasons why you might see calorie intake in the app even if you haven’t eaten, just woke up, or are currently fasting:
1. Absorption from previous meals continues
Digestion and nutrient absorption take time. Depending on what and when you ate, your body may still be processing and absorbing nutrients many hours later. GoBe continues to track this absorption, even if the meal was the night before.
2. Your body is using internal energy reserves
If you are fasting, dieting, or going long periods without food, your body begins to absorb energy from its own reserves, such as fat or glycogen. GoBe detects this energy just like it does food-based calories.
GoBe does not differentiate between calories from food and calories from internal sources. If your body is absorbing energy — no matter the source — GoBe will reflect this in your calorie intake data.
This is completely normal and shows that your GoBe is working as intended.
Summary - Why Calorie Intake Appears Without Food
Your body may still be absorbing nutrients from earlier meals
Energy may be coming from internal sources like fat or glycogen
GoBe tracks energy absorption, not food consumption
You may see calorie readings after waking up or while fasting
