If you’ve noticed that your GoBe calorie tracking data seems off, you're not alone. Let’s walk through how GoBe tracks calorie intake, what factors affect accuracy, and what you can do to improve your results.
How GoBe Tracks Calories
Unlike food diaries or fitness apps that estimate calories based on what you log, GoBe tracks the energy your body actually absorbs. It does this through our FLOW Technology, which analyzes fluid movement in and out of your cells to determine glucose absorption – a key indicator of energy intake.
This means:
GoBe does not track what you eat, but rather what your body absorbs.
Calorie intake is recorded when nutrients enter the bloodstream – not when food is swallowed.
Why Calorie Readings Might Seem Inaccurate
There are several reasons why calorie tracking may appear incorrect:
1. Timing of Nutrient Absorption
Calorie intake is registered at the absorption stage, which depends on the type of food consumed:
Fast absorption (15–60 mins): Simple sugars, sweets.
Slow absorption (up to 9–10 hours or more): Complex meals with meat, fiber, or fats.
Overlapping meals may lead to delayed or prolonged absorption curves.
Even if you ate several hours ago, GoBe may still be registering calories as your body absorbs nutrients over time.
2. Calories from Internal Resources
GoBe also detects energy your body absorbs from internal reserves, such as:
Glycogen stores
Fat reserves
So if you're fasting, dieting, or exercising, GoBe may still show calorie intake – because your body is consuming stored energy.
3. Diet Type May Affect Accuracy
Currently, GoBe is optimized for balanced diets. If you follow a ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, or other restrictive eating patterns, this can influence reading accuracy.
We’re actively working to improve the algorithm and support more dietary patterns in the future.
4. Weigh-Ins Are Crucial for Calibration
To ensure the best accuracy, it's important to regularly log your weight in the HEALBE app:
We recommend at least 5 weigh-ins over a 2-week period.
Regular weight updates help the algorithm adjust to your current metabolism.
5. Final Data is Available the Next Day
The GoBe algorithm processes and finalizes data with a delay. For the most accurate view:
Check your calorie intake after 12 PM the following day.
How to Improve Accuracy
To get the most reliable calorie data from your GoBe:
Wear your device 22–23 hours a day for complete data collection.
Ensure good sensor contact with your skin.
Log your weight regularly in the app.
Wait until after 12 PM the next day to evaluate your calorie intake.
