If your basal metabolic rate (BMR) in the app seems noticeably lower or higher on one day compared to another, this is not necessarily a sign of a problem. BMR naturally fluctuates, and several factors can influence it.
BMR Is Dynamic - Not Fixed
Your BMR reflects the number of calories your body uses to maintain essential functions at rest. While some factors, like age and sex, are stable, others can vary daily or seasonally, which affects the BMR calculation.
Here’s what can influence day-to-day BMR changes:
1. Physical and hormonal activity
BMR is affected by your level of physical activity and shifts in hormonal balance. Even if your weight hasn’t changed, a more or less active day can lead to changes in metabolic intensity.
2. Food intake and digestion
Eating and digesting food temporarily increases your metabolism, especially when consuming protein. This is known as the thermic effect of food. On days when you eat more or eat high-protein meals, your BMR may increase accordingly.
3. Dietary restrictions or overconsumption
Periods of fasting, strict dieting, or overeating can impact how your body processes energy and can cause your BMR to fluctuate.
4. Ambient temperature
External temperature plays a role as well. When your body is exposed to colder environments, it works harder to maintain internal temperature, which increases BMR. A similar increase is not observed to the same extent in warmer temperatures.
5. Wearing time of the band
If you only wore the band for a few hours on one day, but for the entire day on another, the amount of data collected will differ significantly. Shorter wearing time may lead to incomplete or less accurate BMR data. For consistent results, we recommend wearing the band 22–23 hours per day, removing it only for charging.
Summary - What Affects BMR Changes Day to Day
Physical activity level
Hormonal changes
Meal composition and digestion
Fasting or dietary imbalance

Incomplete data due to limited wearing time
To get the most reliable BMR data, try to wear your GoBe band continuously each day and sync the device regularly.
