Let us explain how GoBe3 tracks calories.
GoBe3 does not directly track what you eat, rather it tracks the energy consumed by your body.
When your body absorbs energy, either from the food that you eat or from internal resources, the glucose level in your blood rises. To absorb glucose the cells need to release water. GoBe3 analyzes fluid moving in and out of the cells. Then we apply FLOW Technology advanced algorithm to this information in order to analyze this data and calculate calorie intake.
This explains why you may be fasting for example, for three days in a row, and GoBe3 would still show energy consumption.
GoBe3 registers calorie intake at the time when calories are absorbed by the body, at the stage of nutrients getting into the blood.
Different stages of digestion process take different time:
1-2 hours - the process of chewing and swallowing;
3-4 hours - the handling of food by digestive fluids;
4-8 hours - digestion process;
5-9 hours, and sometimes more than 24 hours - food is delivered to the suction area and enters the blood.
Some of these processes occur simultaneously, so the first portion of digested food may enter the blood after 15-30 minutes, and the main part of the meal - only after 3-4 hours, while the absorption period can be superimposed on the next meal. Depending on the composition of the meal, 90% of the food can appear in the blood after 1 hour (sweets, sugar) and after 9-10 hours (complex dishes with meat and side dishes).
It is important to understand also that GoBe's algorithms are very sensitive and register not only physiological processes related directly to the digestion of food, but also release of ketons into the bloodstream, which can happen during fasting, after significant physical activity, intermittent eating, intoxication from alcohol, and ketogenic diets. Although these processes are registered, at the moment there is no way to see how many calories were received from each source. We hope that such possibility will appear in the next firmware updates.
What this means if that if you drink a glass of water on an empty stomach or you work out, this may start up the digestion process and you will see calorie intake which seemingly does not correspond to the current intake, while it could be calories partially not digested from the past meal, or ketons received from the internal reserve.
